Kodak Zi8 vs. Touch Play By Play idlegravity I bought Touch and spent a few days to compare them with a borrowed Zi8. I have a couple of hours of recordings in different situations and with different solutions of the two shot-mounted side-by-side. I did a quick comparison of the two could be useful to others who try to touch play. There were certainly some improvement in the game on the touch Zi8: * The device itself is smaller and slimmer. I think it looks a bit better than the older model. * The performance in low light better on the Touch Play. Neither camera is great in low light, but the player would get a touch screen in a dark room when Zi8 only record black. * Game Touch had a much greater angle lens. My kids always seem to get too close, when the camera comes, and the greater angle Play Touch was much better in these situations. * MP4 file format (vs. Zi8 MOV). Read MP4 files to play touch much easier on my Windows machine as the equivalent of the MOV and MP4 MOV Zi8 are only within the container for H.264 video, but for some reason it works better on Windows with MP4. My editing software (Sony Vegas) chokes on the MOV. Created by Zi8, but also works with MP4. Obviously rock QuickTime, if you're on a Mac. * The play has some clever touch "effects" of the video. I do not think you would never use in real life, but they are fun to play with a couple of minutes and may have children they would like. There were some important ares where the play lost touch Zi8: * The video on the other side had too much play touch. Blasted in a normal shot in the head outside the sun's light and shade of trees, half of the frame from the sun, while the dark parts completely black. The Zi8 manages these situations with aplomb. * The user interface of play touch was much slower and less responsive than Zi8 Everything from the menus when you start recording after pressing the button, it was much slower in-play touch. * The video is displayed on the screen during recording is very small and with a delay of about 1 / 2 second. One would think that with a bigger screen, would the video shown during the recording to be bigger, but I could be wrong (The film shows play touch greatest playback in landscape mode, however). Zi8 video screen did not stay at all. * The video to play touch, do not look as good as Zi8 in any resolution. I do not know if it is due to a lower bit rate or something else in compression, but the video had more play touch blocking artifacts and jagged. * In other than the bright light, it was touch video play very loud. Much worse than Zi8. * The play touch looked hot in the video record of the 1080th He does not burn hot, but it was warm enough to play me some concern * The touch was the occasional reset. * Battery life is approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes to play touch as he was about 1 hour and 30 minutes in Zi8. For me it was a question: I bought one and came to play touch Zi8. Perhaps some of the games touch deficiencies can be corrected in future firmware updates, but the fundamental problems of image quality can not be fixed in the firmware - they are intrinsic to the CMOS sensor from Kodak chose to play touch. I could ignore chubby user interface for better low light, wide angle lens, and MP4 container format, but the serious step down in video quality makes it impossible for me to play touch consider. 65 of 70 people found the following review helpful.
