Customer Reviews more useful 46 of 47 people found the following review helpful. excellent video quality by C. Stephens considered the HDR-CX300 (this), HDR-CX350V, CX550V and HDR. In a nutshell my decision process was as follows: The CX550V is a better lens than the others, and more memory, but was completely out of my price range - thus wrong. The CX350V and CX300 appear to be similar, except: - The CX350V has 32 GB of internal memory instead of 16GB - the CX350V has GPS capability - at the time of purchase CX350V was a good bit more expensive than the CX300 (but only a difference of ~ $ 40 now). Each of these issues were addressed: - Internal memory is a non-issue. These cameras have SD card slots so you can effectively expand to whatever capacity you need (and usually much cheaper than the premium you pay for "embedded" memory). In addition, this camcorder store about 85 minutes of video on the internal memory of 16 GB with the highest quality (24 MB / s High Definition) Do you really need to record more than 85 minutes at a time, anyway? I bet that most people exaggerate their memory. The obvious exception is the recording of events, such as recording a child's play / performance / game etc - GPS would have been a "useful", but it is not necessary for me. I understand that enabling this feature on higher end models drain the battery faster. - When you buy the CX300 was much cheaper. Given these points, I have chosen CX300. Reflections on the CX300: Pros: - I upgraded from a standard definition DV cameras (Sony DCR-HC96). There is no comparison in quality, this camera is crazy. You can not compare with other cameras AVCHD, but I'm happy. - Performance in low light is quite good, especially in speed (24 MB / s option), I know CX550V is better with a larger sensor, but I have no complaints, and if not then you should start pixel looked I would bet they Most people would never know the difference between the two - image stabilization ("Optical SteadyShot") is an order of magnitude better than any camera capable of consumers who have used - in fact very small (think tin size), less means that the will take longer - can fit in a pocket or jacket, baggy pants - no "dock" to do with my camera as the previous one (eg for charging, syncing, etc.) - automatic mode is quite good (I am an avid photographer but I just use this thing on auto and it works fine) - the macro feature is awesome, you can focus very close - there are some ways to 'trick', for example etc. idle - they work as advertised - film is really "small" (per hour) than the standard-definition DV footage, something like 13GB/hr for DV and SD 11-12GB/hr for unity the highest quality - big wide wide angle lens, the camera is much more usable interior space Disadvantages: - small problem in my opinion - No viewfinder, LCD are for recording (I do not mind, but in bright light, it can become blurred a little) used - the ergonomics are not great - the zoom button is a bit difficult to operate, depending on how you think (try it in a local store first) - supplied battery is low good enough for a day of intermittent fire on a family holiday, but probably not enough to record an event of long duration - have not found a good case for it, most small businesses, Sony is still a bit 'too big - need extra padding stuff there - CX350V is now little more expensive, so now less of a case for buying this unit - the menu is small and tedious to use (expect for the price I think) / Other: - This camera records AVCHD format directly to internal memory or SD card - no tape involved is much debate on this. On the positive side, this means that you can transfer images to make a movie only copy of the file without having to read at normal speed on the camera to transfer to your computer as you would with a DV tape. On the negative side, the bands are a fantastic new automatically.
